I have always been deeply fascinated by the female body.
It started when I was 13 years old in science class, watching a movie about the female reproductive system. They had filmed the ovaries, fimbria, and fallopian tubes with a microscopic camera. I was in complete awe of the intelligence of the female body.
I was so blown away by the beauty I saw—in my eyes, it looked like a magical underwater world. I walked out of those doors a changed young woman; I now held a newfound admiration and pride in my female body.
However, it would take me almost 15 more years before I understood that the debilitating menstrual suffering I was experiencing was not a natural and inevitable part of this magical body.

I got my period when I was 10 years old, and only a year or two later, I developed debilitating menstrual pain. You know the kind—where I had to stay home from school for two days and even a double dose of ibuprofen would not take the pain away. I remember the feeling of cold sweat and feeling really ill each and every month.
In my twenties, my situation worsened, and I also developed debilitating PMDD. At my worst, two weeks every month would disappear to being curled up on my bed—first with debilitating PMS and then with equally debilitating pain.
I have always been a person full of love for life and passion, with so many things I wanted to do! Feeling half of my months slip away to pain and suffering was heartbreaking; it made me believe that I would never be able to blossom in life in the way that I longed to. I felt struck down and helpless.

That was until I met my mentors at Justisse College.
In 2009, when I was in my early 20s, I found my way to advanced menstrual cycle tracking—what we call Fertility Awareness. For the second time in my life, I was struck with awe and amazement for my fantastic body!
I couldn’t believe that I had lived more than 20 years of my life without anyone ever teaching me how my menstrual cycle really worked—and that I could actually learn to read my body in order to know exactly what was going on in it!
This led me down a path of deep research and learning about my menstrual cycle, and after a few years, it became clear to me that this was what I had been put on the Earth to do: helping women find their way back to their incredible bodies and once again befriend their monthly cycles.

I went out looking for the very best education to help me achieve this goal, and I found Justisse College International – the world renowned women's holistic health institute founded by PhD Geraldine Matus in 1987.
I embarked on a four-year adventure of high-level studies in physiology, endocrinology, holistic menstrual cycle care, and women’s deep psychology.
My passion for the subject—for helping women back to their bodies—was burning as strong as ever. However, I was still suffering from heavy pain and PMS two weeks every cycle, making it hard for me to really make use of my potential.

When we came to the part of the training that addressed holistic menstrual cycle healthcare, I spoke to my mentors about my problems. Their reaction:
“Siri, this is not something that will be solved by just befriending your body and menstrual cycle. These problems are a reflection of a deep underlying imbalance in your body—that needs to be addressed at the root”.
And so, together with their guidance, I embarked on a deep journey of healing my body—the same journey that I would later lead hundreds of other women on.
And it worked.
My PMS and menstrual pain disappeared—completely!

And if that wasn't enough, so did a lot of other problems I’d had in my body throughout my twenties! Such as fatigue, hair loss, sleep problems, skin problems, and more.
It turned out that all along, my menstrual cycle had been trying to communicate with me through those difficult symptoms—pointing to deep imbalances in my system.Once I addressed them at the root, my cycle returned to its natural, pain-free, balanced, healthy state.
Today, I’m in my late 30s, and I haven’t had any menstrual cycle issues for nearly 10 years. Additionally, my overall health, wellbeing, and thriving are better than ever—and only getting better every year.

That’s because my menstrual cycle has taught me to truly listen to my body and understand what it needs to be truly nourished and thrive.
Every day, I have the great honor and pleasure of guiding other women on the same path. A path where our menstrual cycles are no longer something we see as disturbing or disrupting, but a wise part of our bodies, guiding us back towards our deepest potential for health and thriving.
Guiding us back to being the women we truly came here to be.

P.S. I also co-founded the Nordic Union for Fertility Awareness and served as its first chairperson for many years, have been active in the ecological grassroots movement since the early 2000s, hosted a monthly New Story Hub in Oslo where we explored how to co-create a paradigm of thriving on every level of society, have been the editor for a poetry book, have a deeply integrated spiritual practice that's been fueling everything I do in the world for the last 20+ years, have a background in caring for non-speakers, love singing and dancing, and am a proud book hoarder and knitoholic. But those are stories for another time.
